In a heartfelt show of patriotism and generosity, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić has donated $10 million to help combat poverty in three underdeveloped regions of his native Slovenia. The donation will support essential programs in Prekmurje, Koroška, and Bela Krajina—areas that continue to struggle with economic hardship despite Slovenia’s overall growth.
Dončić, widely celebrated not only for his basketball talent but also for his philanthropic efforts, emphasized his deep connection to his homeland. “Slovenia gave me everything. I want to give something back, especially to those who need it most,” he said in a statement.
The funds will go toward improving education access, healthcare services, and job training programs, working in partnership with local charities and government agencies. Community leaders have praised Dončić’s initiative as transformative, providing hope and concrete support to families facing generational poverty.
This is not Dončić’s first philanthropic effort—he has previously funded youth sports programs and children’s hospitals. However, this marks his largest contribution to date, underscoring his growing role as both a sports icon and a global humanitarian.
