Penrith Panthers star halfback Nathan Cleary has made headlines off the field today, announcing a heartfelt initiative to support vulnerable youth. In a stunning act of generosity, the NRL rising star has pledged $7.5 million to transform one of his personal properties into a fully operational shelter for homeless young people.
Cleary, 27, said the idea was born out of his desire to give back to the community and provide real solutions for at-risk youth. “Footy has given me so much, but it’s important to use my platform for something bigger,” Cleary stated. “Everyone deserves a safe place to sleep and a chance to turn their life around.”
The shelter, located in Western Sydney, will provide accommodation, mental health support, education resources, and job placement services for up to 50 young people at a time. Construction and renovations are set to begin in late 2025.
Community leaders and fans alike have praised the move, calling Cleary a role model both on and off the field. As homelessness continues to rise among young Australians, this bold and compassionate step could inspire a new wave of athlete-driven philanthropy across the country.
