The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has announced it will unveil a statue of Tyler Hansbrough outside the Dean E. Smith Center, honoring one of the most iconic players in Tar Heel basketball history. Known for his unmatched intensity, relentless work ethic, and passion for the game, Hansbrough left an indelible mark on college basketball.

Hansbrough, affectionately nicknamed “Psycho T,” played for UNC from 2005 to 2009 and led the Tar Heels to the 2009 NCAA Championship. He was the first player in ACC history to be a four-time first-team All-ACC selection and remains the conference’s all-time leading scorer. His legacy goes beyond the stats—Hansbrough embodied what it meant to be a Tar Heel: grit, determination, and loyalty.

The statue, which will be placed near the entrance of the Smith Center, is a tribute not just to his on-court accomplishments but to the spirit he brought to the program. UNC fans, former teammates, and alumni are expected to attend the ceremony, celebrating a player who gave his all to Carolina blue. This tribute ensures Hansbrough’s impact will inspire generations to come.
