Injury curse continues for Sutton weeks after comeback….
Canberra Raiders forward Ryan Sutton’s return to the NRL has been dealt another cruel blow, with the Englishman sidelined once again due to injury. Just weeks after making his long-awaited comeback from a lengthy layoff, Sutton has suffered a fresh setback in what’s been a frustrating year marred by physical setbacks. The 29-year-old had only recently rejoined the Raiders’ lineup after recovering from a major knee injury that kept him out for the majority of the 2024 season.
Sutton had been building momentum, providing crucial go-forward and defensive steel for Canberra off the bench, but his latest issue – understood to be a hamstring strain – could rule him out for several more weeks. The timing couldn’t be worse, with the Raiders in the thick of a tight finals race and relying heavily on forward depth.
Head coach Ricky Stuart expressed his disappointment, labelling Sutton’s misfortune “gut-wrenching” given the work he’s put in to return. The club remains hopeful the injury isn’t season-ending, but further scans will determine the severity. Sutton’s resilience remains unquestioned, but the constant setbacks have raised concerns about his long-term durability heading into the final year of his contract.
