Thierry Henry urges UEFA to reinstate rule that could boost Arsenal’s chances against PSG

 

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has called on UEFA to bring back the away goals rule in European competitions, a move that could significantly benefit the Gunners in their upcoming Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

 

The away goals rule, which was scrapped in 2021, previously gave extra weight to goals scored away from home in two-legged ties. Henry, who won the Champions League with Barcelona and starred for Arsenal, believes its removal has made knockout matches more conservative.

 

“The away goals rule added drama and forced teams to attack,” Henry said. “Without it, ties can become too cagey. For a team like Arsenal, who thrive on the counter-attack, having that extra incentive could be crucial against a side like PSG.”

 

With Arsenal set to face PSG in a high-stakes quarter-final, reinstating the rule could tilt the balance in their favor—especially if Mikel Arteta’s side can secure a strong result in Paris.
