Arsenal’s 2024–25 season, once brimming with promise, has culminated in disappointment. The Gunners faced eliminations in the Champions League semifinals by PSG, the Carabao Cup by Newcastle, and an early exit from the FA Cup. Additionally, they lost the Premier League title to Liverpool and are now striving to maintain second place in the league.

In response to these setbacks, Arsenal has appointed Andrea Berta as the new sporting director, replacing Edu Gaspar. Berta, renowned for his successful tenure at Atlético Madrid, where he orchestrated significant player transfers and contributed to the club’s achievements, including a La Liga title and two Champions League final appearances, is now tasked with revitalizing Arsenal’s squad.

Berta’s immediate mission involves a substantial investment in the transfer market, with a reported budget exceeding £105 million. The primary objective is to secure a prolific striker, with Viktor Gyökeres of Sporting CP emerging as a leading candidate. Gyökeres has impressed with 13 goals and four assists in 24 league starts for Wolves this season.

In addition to bolstering the attack, Berta aims to strengthen the midfield. Targets include Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle United. Guimarães, in particular, has a £100 million release clause and has expressed interest in a move, making him a viable option to enhance Arsenal’s midfield dynamism.

Furthermore, Berta is considering a reunion with Pablo Barrios, a 21-year-old midfielder from Atlético Madrid, who has a €100 million release clause. Barrios’s potential addition would inject youthful energy and creativity into the squad.

To facilitate these acquisitions, Arsenal may need to offload certain players. The departures of Jorginho, Thomas Partey, and Kieran Tierney are already confirmed, and the club might consider selling valuable assets like Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard to balance the books.

Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence in Berta’s capabilities, highlighting his winning mentality and clear vision. Arteta believes that Berta’s expertise will be instrumental in transforming Arsenal into a title-winning team.

As Arsenal embarks on this pivotal summer transfer window, the collaboration between Arteta and Berta will be crucial in assembling a squad capable of competing at the highest levels, both domestically and in Europ
