Arsenal’s defensive rock, William Saliba, has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers since establishing himself as a key player under Mikel Arteta. However, recent comments from Atletico Madrid’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, have reignited speculation that Real Madrid could make a serious move for the Frenchman—and Arsenal may soon face a battle to keep him.

Berta, when discussing elite defenders, name-dropped Saliba as a player who fits the profile of a “top-level centre-back.” While his remarks weren’t an explicit transfer declaration, they serve as a reminder that Europe’s biggest clubs are watching. Real Madrid, in particular, have a history of poaching the world’s best defenders, and with Nacho Fernandez’s future uncertain, they could see Saliba as the ideal long-term successor.

Saliba’s current deal runs until 2027, but if Real Madrid formalize their interest with a massive bid, Arsenal may be forced to make a tough decision. The Gunners must either secure him with an improved contract or brace for a potential transfer battle they can’t afford to lose.

One thing is clear: Arsenal can no longer ignore the growing noise around Saliba’s future. The time to act is now.
