Arsenal fans and pundits alike are calling on the club to refuse any potential guard of honor for Liverpool if the Reds clinch the Premier League title before their upcoming clash. The debate has intensified after Chelsea’s clear stance in a similar situation last season.

 

The tradition of a guard of honor—where the opposing team applauds the newly crowned champions onto the pitch—has come under scrutiny, with many labeling it “humiliating” for the runners-up. Chelsea notably avoided the gesture in 2022 when they faced Manchester City, sparking discussions over whether Arsenal should follow suit.

 

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has been vocal, stating: “Why should Arsenal give Liverpool that satisfaction? It’s a symbolic gesture, but pride matters. Chelsea set the precedent—sometimes you have to stand your ground.”
