In a stunning mid-season development, English winger Dom Young has secured a lucrative $2.5 million deal with the Penrith Panthers, signing on until the end of the 2027 NRL season. The announcement comes just hours after the Sydney Roosters granted the 22-year-old an immediate release from his contract.
Young, who joined the Roosters in 2024 after a breakout stint with the Newcastle Knights, has struggled to find consistent form and playing time under Trent Robinson. With tensions reportedly simmering behind the scenes, the Roosters opted to part ways with the towering winger earlier than expected.
The Panthers wasted no time capitalizing on the opportunity, locking in Young on a multi-year deal worth approximately $830,000 per season. The signing bolsters Penrith’s already formidable backline as they continue their pursuit of a fourth consecutive premiership.
Panthers head coach Ivan Cleary praised Young’s athleticism and try-scoring ability, calling him a “game-breaking talent with immense upside.” Young is expected to join Penrith’s squad immediately and could make his debut as early as next week.
