In a move that blends nostalgia with forward vision, former North Carolina standout Marcus Ginyard is officially returning to the Tar Heel family. UNC Basketball has announced Ginyard as its new Director of Special Projects, a role designed to strengthen the program’s community ties, player development initiatives, and alumni engagement.
Ginyard, known during his playing days for his defensive tenacity and leadership under Coach Roy Williams, embodies the Carolina spirit both on and off the court. After a successful international basketball career and years of involvement in youth mentorship, his return marks a full-circle moment.
Head Coach Hubert Davis praised the appointment, calling Ginyard “a true Tar Heel whose passion for this university is unmatched.” The new position will allow him to contribute to player outreach, culture-building programs, and strategic community projects aimed at preserving UNC’s storied legacy.
