Senior first baseman Lauren Putz has been named the 2025 Softball America Player of the Year, capping a dominant season for the Michigan Wolverines. Putz led the team with a .427 batting average, 18 home runs, and 62 RBIs, anchoring Michigan’s offense and helping the Wolverines secure a deep postseason run. Known for her power, leadership, and clutch performances, Putz is the first Michigan player to earn the prestigious national honor since Sierra Romero in 2016.

In addition to Putz’s top accolade, three other Wolverines received All-America honors. Sophomore pitcher Riley James was named to the First Team after a 22-4 season with a 1.58 ERA and 218 strikeouts. Junior shortstop Kayla Nguyen earned Second Team recognition, batting .365 with elite defensive play, while outfielder Brooke Daniels was named to the Third Team, contributing speed and consistency in the leadoff spot.

Michigan head coach Bonnie Tholl praised the team’s unity and individual growth: “This group embodies what Michigan softball is all about—hard work, resilience, and excellence.”

With four All-Americans and a Player of the Year in Lauren Putz, the Wolverines have re-established themselves as a national powerhouse in collegiate softball.
