The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs suffered a hard-fought 30-16 defeat against the Canberra Raiders in Round 18 of the Jersey Flegg Cup. Played at Belconnen Oval, the match showcased strong determination from the young Bulldogs, but costly errors and missed opportunities ultimately let them down.
Canberra opened the scoring early, capitalising on a Bulldogs handling error to cross the line in the opening minutes. The Bulldogs responded through a well-worked team try, but the Raidersā dominance in possession saw them take a 20-6 lead into the break. Despite some standout individual efforts ā including a line-break and try assist from five-eighth Mitchell Woods ā the Bulldogs struggled to contain Canberraās aggressive forward pack.
The second half saw a spirited Bulldogs comeback attempt. Winger Joash Papalii crossed in the corner, followed by another try that narrowed the margin to just eight points. However, late errors and penalties gifted Canberra field position, and they sealed the win with a final try in the dying minutes.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs showed plenty of fight and resilience. They’ll be looking to bounce back in Round 19 with improved discipline and execution as the finals race tightens.
