Liverpool fans hit back at Mikel Arteta after bizarre Premier League title claims

Liverpool supporters have reacted with disbelief and amusement after Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta made eyebrow-raising comments about the Premier League title race.

 

Following Arsenal’s crucial 3-2 win over Tottenham, Arteta claimed that last season’s title collapse—where the Gunners led for much of the campaign before being overtaken by Manchester City—was “not a failure.” He also suggested that Arsenal had been “the best team in the league” over the past two seasons, despite failing to lift the trophy.

 

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool fans were quick to remind Arteta that success is measured in silverware, not just strong runs. The Reds, who pushed City close in multiple title races under Jürgen Klopp, have actually won the Premier League in recent years (2019-20), unlike Arsenal, whose last title came in 2004.

 

Many supporters took to social media to mock Arteta’s comments, with one fan tweeting: “If coming second twice is ‘not a failure,’ then what’s actually winning the league? A miracle?” Others pointed out that Liverpool’s consistency under Klopp—including a 99-point season and a Champions League triumph—sets a higher benchmark than Arsenal’s near-misses.

 

With the Gunners still fighting for the title this season, Arteta’s words may have been an attempt to ease pressure. But for now, Liverpool fans are happy to let the table—and the trophy cabinet—do the talking.
