Losing Tyrese Haliburton for an entire season is a massive setback for the Pacers, no doubt. He’s the engine of their offense, a gifted playmaker, and a leader on and off the court. But the season is far from lost. Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard have shown flashes of brilliance and chemistry that suggest they can carry the backcourt load together. Mathurin’s scoring ability, aggressiveness, and improved efficiency pair well with Nembhard’s poise, vision, and two-way presence. These two are young, hungry, and ready to prove themselves on the big stage.
Rick Carlisle’s system emphasizes ball movement and pace, which fits their strengths perfectly. Add in strong complementary pieces like Myles Turner, Obi Toppin, and the continued growth of Jarace Walker, and this team still has the depth and versatility to compete. The East has its powerhouses, but it’s not untouchable. If Mathurin makes the leap many expect and Nembhard continues his steady rise, 50+ wins and a run to the Eastern Conference Finals aren’t out of reach. It’ll take buy-in, health, and some breakout performances—but this young Pacers squad has the tools, the mindset, and the opportunity to shock the league.
