Following Ryan Blaney’s victory at the Nashville Superspeedway, Denny Hamlin expressed strong disapproval over a strategic pit stop executed by Team Penske during a crucial green-flag period. Hamlin contended that the timing of the stop allowed Blaney to gain an advantageous position, ultimately costing Hamlin the lead.
In a post-race interview, Hamlin remarked, “That move was a game-changer. They pulled off a daring pit stop under green, and it handed them the advantage. It’s a tactic that bends the rules of fair play.” He further accused Team Penske of exploiting the situation to gain an unfair advantage, stating, “It’s a clever move, but it’s not in the spirit of the competition.”
Team Penske defended their strategy, asserting that the decision was within the regulations and aimed at maximizing their performance. Crew chief Jonathan Hassler explained, “We assessed the situation and made a calculated decision. It was a high-risk move, but it was within the rules and aligned with our race strategy.”
The controversy has sparked debate within the NASCAR community about the ethics of aggressive pit strategies and their impact on race outcomes.
