Following a hard-fought Round 20 clash between the Canberra Raiders and Parramatta Eels, both coaches fronted the media in a tense post-match press conference. The Raiders secured a gritty 24-18 victory at GIO Stadium, keeping their finals hopes alive.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart praised his team’s resilience, highlighting their defensive effort in the final 20 minutes. “We’ve been under pressure the last few weeks, but the boys showed real character tonight,” Stuart said. “It wasn’t pretty at times, but they dug in when it mattered.”

Stuart also commended young fullback Ethan Strange for a mature performance under high-ball pressure and praised veteran Jack Wighton’s leadership in key moments.

Meanwhile, Eels interim coach Trent Barrett expressed frustration at his side’s inconsistency. “We created opportunities, but execution let us down,” Barrett said. “Our discipline in crucial stages cost us, especially late in the second half.”

Injuries also played a role, with Eels captain Clint Gutherson leaving the field with a suspected hamstring strain. Barrett confirmed scans would determine his availability moving forward.

With finals rapidly approaching, both sides know the stakes are rising. For the Raiders, the win breathes life into their campaign; for the Eels, questions remain.
