The Canberra Raiders have launched proactive retention talks with three key players as rival clubs circle ahead of the 2026 NRL season. The club is determined to stave off a potential poaching raid by opening discussions with forward duo Pasami Saulo and Ata Mariota, as well as versatile back Albert Hopoate. All three are off-contract at the end of 2025, making them eligible to negotiate with other clubs from November 1.
Saulo has been a consistent performer in the middle, while Mariota’s explosive impact off the bench has caught the eye of several teams. Hopoate, who can cover fullback, centre and wing, has added significant depth to the backline and impressed with his form this season.
Raiders officials are confident they can retain the trio, citing the strong culture under coach Ricky Stuart and the club’s recent on-field success. While no deals have been finalized, early talks are said to be positive, with at least one player understood to be leaning toward extending.
With a number of clubs expected to enter a rebuild phase in 2026, Canberra is moving swiftly to lock in its future before rivals make their move in the open market.
